My friends, join me. Don’t be left out of any
Holy War. Step onto the battle field
and make your
God known. Don’t
let the big boys
crowd you out.
OK, you don’t have a brand name
religion? A little uncertain of the leadership of the one you belong to? Nothing to slap onto your banner or coat of arms to identify yourself?
Not Catholicism? Fundamentalism? Evangelism? Capitalism? Socialism? Athiesm? Feminism? Gingoism?
If within you beats the heart of a mercenary of conscience, do what
such Italian
mercenaries did
in similar circumstances.
Take up your sword (or pen, or baked goods - sword is a metaphor)
for the unchampioned
and have emblazoned on your coat
of arms “Cedamus
Amori” - Surrender
to Love.
Make it clear that the
only way you're
going to surrender in this battle, in this war, in anything, is if you are
faced with genuine love. Yield to
nothing else.
Not force. Not
threat. Not blackmail.
The advanced warriors among
you might have picked
up on the fact
that, if you're not surrendering to anything other than
love, your opponent might
be doing the
same. In which
case, a good
strategy would be to "attack" with love. What would this look like? Meditate on that.
OK,
Truth: I can’t vouch for this
bit of trivia about the mercenaries,
it was supplied
to me via capitalism,
as the
copy blurb on a T-shirt in a
boutique I saw
years ago when I surrendered
to
the impulse to
shop. But back
to the battlefield.
Like many battles, the field
will be screaming
with people who have no idea
what they’re doing there,
running around, faces painted,
adrenaline pulsing, a roar
of emotion in their
ears, whacking away at things
at random. These
people are a
lot of fun if you don't get
in their way. God bless ‘em.
FYI, the phrase is taken from this sentence: "Omnia vincit amor, nos et
cedamus amori " - Love conquers all things, let us too yield to love.
